BIO - MY STORY

Born in Kingston, Jamaica

Garfield Williamson, a/k/a Melogy, f/k/a Swallow, was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1967. The musical journey of this talented vocalist and songwriter started as a toddler when his mother enrolled him in the church choir. He and others quickly learned that he had a natural talent for singing.

Melogy moved to Negril Jamaica in the early ’90s. Negril’s shoreline contained one of the top 10 beaches in the world making it a not-so-sleepy little tourist town, which quickly became known as a hub for Reggae with its live shows performed by top Reggae artists.

Because of his musical talent, he quickly began performing with top reggae artists, like Greg Isaac, in live concerts as the opening act, which he recounts: “My life changed that night.” He performed under the stage name Swallow, which he was named as a kid from the classic reggae tune “When the Right Time Come” by the Mighty Diamonds, singing about swallowfield in the battlefield. He went on to perform harmonies with Nicki Burt, who later toured and performed with Tarrus Riley, performing such Reggae hits as “Don’t Look Back.” He has performed with other known artist as Josie Field, Culture, Tony Rebble, Jack Radics, and Sugar Minott, among many others.

As early as 2004, Melogy, under the stage name Swallow, began writing his own songs, such as “Give It To Me Girl,” and then in 2009, he produced songs like “Hard Core Lovin” and “Ask How I Know,” two very distinct sounds in their own right about the reality of hard times in the ghetto and love and desire in its raw sense. In 2015, he wrote and performed the hit song “Lifeline” with Beanie Man and DJ Mugsie, which was also later remixed. He went on to write and produce “Its Like” in 2018 with the Ocean Waves Band, which had traveled from Liverpool to Jamaica to record with top local reggae artists like Swallow. The song is described as having “a level of authenticity that is rare among British-produced reggae.” It was a “collaboration with a series of producers and artists across a myriad of genres, but focusing on reggae, funk, R&B and old school hip hop,” crossing “musical and cultural borders.” https://planetslop.co.uk/articles/ocean-waves-interview-jamaican-musicians-wanted-live-moment/. “Its Like,” with its reggae classic beats and calypso and dancehall sounds, was also remixed within only a few short years.

Melogy’s musical career contributed to his diverse sound and songwriting talent that crosses many genres of music, from classic roots reggae to R&B, dancehall, hip-hop, and pop, among others.
